Founded in 2018 in Berlin at the Akademie für Künste, the piano institute is currently based in Vienna.


What is on offer 

Individual piano lessons (German/Spanish), focusing on the piano technique of the Russian School and the French School.

Knowledge of harmony and musical analysis according to the art of composition.

Exercises of improvisation, audioperceptive, and musical theory.


Levels of learning 

Classes are suitable for all levels, from beginner to advanced.

Miguel Bareilles' pedagogical experience, both in the private sphere and in educational institutions, together with his international professional experience (concerts, piano congresses, master classes in universities, prizes obtained, higher level studies), guarantee his teaching work.


Where and when

Classes are held in an old building in the Meidling district (1120 Wien), which has all the necessary infrastructure for comfortable learning.

The timetables available at the moment are on Wednesdays and Fridays, from 15:00 to 19:00 hs.

Course contents

Composition
As an internationally award-winning composer, Miguel offers anyone interested access to the compositional methods he has developed and normally uses.


Popular Music and Improvisation
Miguel also explains how the piano works in relation to different musical styles (pop, rock, jazz, tango), with an emphasis on improvisation.


Ensemble
Those who show interest can participate in the ensemble experiences that Miguel leads, be it in classical music or in tango.


Initial level

Technique: Finger exercises (Beyer, Czerny), dissociation, independence of the hands, melodies with accompaniment, works by (Nikolajew, Bach, Schumann, etc.). Music theory: Introduction to notation, G clef, semitone step, major scales, whole tone step, the dotted, the triplet, note values, pause values. Harmony: Major and minor triads, main triads (tonic, dominant, subdominant), main cadenza applied to musical examples.


Intermediate
Technique: Finger exercises (Czerny, Hannon), works by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Schumann, Chopin, etc. Musical performances (dynamic, staccato, marcato, tenuto, ritardando, etc.). Music theory: reading and writing notes, bass clef, auxiliary lines, the accidentals, major and minor scales, chromatic scales, arpeggios, diminished and augmented intervals. Harmony: reversals of chords, parallel keys, seventh chord (minor, major, semi-diminished, diminished, augmented), voice leading, intermediate dominants.


Advanced
Technique/Repertoire: Works by Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, Piazzolla, Rachmaninov, Ginastera, Debussy, Bartók, Stravinski, etc. Music theory: scales (pentatonic, hexatonic, heptatonic), modes, the circle of fifths, polyrhythmics. Harmony: chord extensions, modulation, chord symbols, chord exception, substitute chords (substitutions), tritonus substitution.
